Schools today profess deep learning

All I see is a huge pile of books and copies

Weighing down a five-year-old

Who trudges down a weary summer afternoon path

Wearing her school t-shirt and hot denim jeans

Panting, puffing, sweating….

Bending under the burden of the future loaded on her little back

Looking at me with bleary, confused eyes

Where any joy of learning or creativity is sadly missing
